A college does not have to serve a student solely based on that student also being a client of the Department of Rehabilitation (DR). Disabled Student Programs & Services (DSPS) eligibility has a two part criteria, where the presence of both a disability and an educational limitation must be verified. Information from DR may provide verification of disability, but it does not on it’s own also establish an educational limitation. A professional in the DSPS program must review the information provided by the student and also see what courses or activities the student will engage in at the college before determining whether or not the student also has an educational limitation. Even if the student has a disability it does not mean they also have an educational limitation.
